Judges' Comments
Some images go beyond technicalities – they pull and push our emotions.
They call for a human response. The dominance of blue calms us, the
leading lines draw us to the red heart. The story unfolds – the peeling
paint, the cat door. Does a small child own the heart? The spectacular
highlight on the heart creates a sparkle – Sophie’s heart gives us hope.
Another minimalist image and yet it tells such a big story. The almost monochrome aspect lulls us into a, “that’s nice” feel when WHAM!! The pink heart sings out to you. The peeling paint and rusty iron contrast perfectly with the glorious shiny heart. A truly evocative image which will hold the viewer’s attention for a very long time.

Judges'
Comments A delightful,l gentle treatment of a delicate subject. An image many people would be happy to hang on the wall. Perfectly offset by the black background. It’s often tempting in the Creative area to get carried away – Congratulations to the photography for this subtle treatment.
Highly Commended Andrew Davoll, “Touch Stone” Kate McHardy, “Truckies’ Sunset” Monochromatic Photography
Judges'
Comments A masterful print of an oftentimes difficult subject. Trees and forests are often messy and cluttered and this print has simplified the subject without losing the essence. The highlights of the trunks against the dark mysterious depths of the forest give an excellent graphic image. Very easy to look at!
Highly Commended Ellie Brusasco, “Anticipation” Peter Campbell, “Line of Trees” Ben Reynolds, “The Conversation”

This is a superb image and was the unanimous choice of the two judges! The photographer has treated a simple subject with creativity and innovation employing a fish-eye lens. The three to one panorama aspect suits Australia’s landforms and the cottage has figure-ground separation against the dark trees. A superb image. Simply delightful. A minimalist image which shows the local landscape at its best. The simple presentation of the subject, placed strategically in the centre of the image gives a tranquil and ageless feel. Beautiful print. Beautiful presentation. I wish I’d taken it! Highly Commended Derek Kimberley, “Imperial, Town Hall” Jenelle Denford, “Old Town Hall” Alison Emin, “Dust Storm 2011”
