2008 Monochromatic Photography winning entry, 'Little TJ', by Kate Tye

Judges' comments:
Beautiful, Decisive Moment/ lighting on subject/ captivating/movement, REAL. (By way of highlighting how impressed he was, Craig also described the effort he would have had to go to to if he were to set up such a portrait in the studio.) The photographer explained she had taken the photo when her niece was jumping on the trampoline. She had realised what a lovely photo it would make.

2008 Creative Photography winning entry, 'Double Take', by Gavin David

Judges' comments:
Looks like film fogging such as could happen at the end of a roll of film. End result is like a photographic version of an abstract painting. Is it an accident? Unpredictable. I love it.

2008 York Subject winning entry, 'Wambyn' by Andrew Davoll

Judges' comments:
Beautiful treatment. Love how the blacks bleed and the hues of amber, yellow, orange, blue and indigo glow.

2008 Open Colour winning entry, 'Blue Clams', by Alex Cearns

Judges' comments:
Technically excellent. Sharpness, colour, presentation, size of print, execution, birds-eye-view.(The judges wondered at the colour saturation and brightness and contrast, and asked Alex to explain how she had managed to get such a clear aerial view and clear picture. She said she had been fortunate to be at the right time and place at the coral reefs, and had been able to lean out and cast her own shadow over the area in such a way as to block out the light variations from other sources to get such a clear and even snapshot. And no, it wasn't under sea, but from over it.)
