Objectives of the York Society
To foster the preservation and restoration of buildings and settings of historical, architectural and aesthetic interest in the town of York and districts and the maintenance of harmony with existing architectural patterns when new buildings are to be constructed and to oppose the disfigurement of buildings, streets and open places by unsightly structures.
To encourage the study, writing and publication of the history of the town and the district.
To collect, classify and preserve records relating to the history of York and districts.
To promote cultural activities.
To facilitate the exchange of information through lectures, exhibitions and discussions.
To promote social gatherings which foster these Objectives.
In pursuing these objectives, the Society strives to work constructively with other local organisations to promote the interests of the town of York.
